アメリカでは飛行試験の内容と合格ラインを明確にしています。 PTSは実際の試験で行われる科目と基準を細かく書いた本です。
また、環境に合わせて内容が頻繁に修正されますので、FAAのサイトより最新のを確認して下さい。

II. AREA OF OPERATION: PREFLIGHT PROCEDURES

A. TASK: PREFLIGHT INSPECTION 飛行前の点検
Objective. To determine that the applicant:

1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to preflight inspection. This shall include which items must be inspected, the reasons for checking each item, and how to detect possible defects.
飛行前点検でするべき事柄とその理由を説明。 不良品の見分け方。
2. Inspects the airplane with reference to an appropriate checklist.
適切なチェックリストに従って点検を行なう。
3. Verifies the airplane is in condition for safe flight.
飛行機が安全に飛行できるか確認する。

B. TASK: COCKPIT MANAGEMENT コクピットの管理
必要な書類、計器、装備があるか。椅子やベルトが適切か? 内外が良く見えるか?インターコム等も正しく接続されているか? 電気製品などの電池は十分か?適切なチャートがあるか?筆記用具は?整理整頓されていて飛行中にでも直ぐに取り出せるか。など、など。

(今から行なう飛行に関して、コクピット内部をも準備し余裕をもって飛行が出来る事を確認できなくては行けません。これらの事をCockpit Managementと言います。 CRMとも関連しています。)

Objective. To determine that the applicant:
1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to cockpit management procedures.
コクピット・マネージメントに必要な手順や内容
2. Ensures all loose items in the cockpit and cabin are secured.
固定されていない物を、固定し確認する。
3. Organizes material and equipment in an efficient manner so they are readily available.
色々な物を整理整頓し、飛行中に直ぐに取り出せるようにする。
4. Briefs occupants on the use of safety belts, shoulder harnesses, doors, and emergency procedures.
乗客にシートベルト、肩ベルト、ドア、緊急時の手順の説明をする。

C. TASK: ENGINE STARTING エンジンの始動
Objective. To determine that the applicant:

1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to recommended engine starting procedures. This shall include the use of an external power source, hand propping safety, and starting under various atmospheric conditions.
メーカー推奨のエンジンの始動方法を行う事が出来るか。 それには外部動力等を使っての始動、Hand-Prop(手動)でプロペラを回す方法、色々な大気状態でのエンジン始動(標高の高い空港での始動方法について。)などが含まれます。
2. Positions the airplane properly considering structures, surface conditions, other aircraft, and the safety of nearby persons and property.
適切な場所を選んで、エンジンを始動する事が出来るか。
3. Utilizes the appropriate checklist for starting procedure.
適切なチェックリストを使う。

D. TASK: TAXIING タクシー、地上滑走
Objective. To determine that the applicant:
1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to safe taxi procedures.
安全なタクシーを行なえる知識があるか?
2. Performs a brake check immediately after the airplane begins moving.
動き出して、直ぐにブレーキの効きを調べる事を行なうか。ブレーキチェックを直ぐに行なう事。
3. Positions the flight controls properly for the existing wind conditions.
風の方向にあわせて、正しくFlight Controlを向ける事が出来るか。
4. Controls direction and speed without excessive use of brakes.
ブレーキを使い過ぎずに、方向と速度を調節できるか。
5. Complies with airport/taxiway markings, signals, ATC clearances, and instructions.
ATCや看板の指示に従ってタクシーが可能か。
6. Taxies so as to avoid other aircraft and hazards.
他の飛行機や危険な物を避けてタクシーが出来るか。

 

E. TASK: TAXIING AND SAILING
(水上機に関して)

F. TASK: BEFORE TAKEOFF CHECK 離陸前の点検
Objective. To determine that the applicant:
1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to the before takeoff check. This shall include the reasons for checking each item and how to detect malfunctions.
離陸前の点検に関して十分な知識があるか。点検項目の理由と欠陥を見つける事が出来るか?
2. Positions the airplane properly considering other aircraft/vessels, wind and surface conditions.
点検を行なう際、他の飛行機の位置や風向きを考えて、飛行機を正しく止める事が出来るか?
3. Divides attention inside and outside the cockpit.
コクピットの内部と外部に同時に気を使う事が出来るか?(機内の事ばかりに気を取られて、外部の事を忘れては行けません。)
4. Ensures that engine temperature and pressure are suitable for runup and takeoff.
エンジン点検で、適切なエンジン温度と圧力を確認する。
5. Accomplishes the before takeoff checklist and ensures the airplane is in safe operating condition.
チェックリストを使い、安全に飛行できることを確認する。
6. Reviews takeoff performance airspeeds, takeoff distances, departure, and emergency procedures.
離陸速度、離陸距離、出発方法、緊急時の手順の再確認。 (チェックリスト等を見て確認する事もある。)
7. Avoids runway incursions and/or ensures no conflict with traffic prior to taxiing into takeoff position.
滑走路に入る前に、他の航空機と衝突しないかを確認する。(Towerや無線だけでは無く、目視でもFinal を確認するべきです。)

III. AREA OF OPERATION: AIRPORT OPERATIONS

A. TASK: RADIO COMMUNICATIONS AND ATC LIGHT SIGNALS 無線とATCライトシグナル
Objective. To determine that the applicant:
1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to radio communications and ATC light signals.
無線交信とATCライトシグナルにつての十分な知識があるか?(日本人の弱い所です。暇な時にはATCを聞いて慣れておきましょう。)
2. Selects appropriate frequencies. 適切な周波数を選ぶ。
3. Transmits using recommended phraseology. 適切な航空無線用語を使う。
4. Acknowledges radio communications and complies with instructions. 無線指示に応答し、従えるか。

B. TASK: TRAFFIC PATTERNS トラフィック・パターンについて。
Objective. To determine that the applicant:
1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to traffic patterns. This shall include procedures at airports with and without operating control towers, prevention of runway incursions, collision avoidance, wake turbulence avoidance, and wind shear. 管制塔のある空港と無い空港での手順、地上と空中での衝突防止策、後方乱気流とウインド・シェアの回避などの知識が十分に有るか。
2. Complies with proper traffic pattern procedures. トラフィック・パターンの手順に従う。(Right or Left? Altitude? 特殊ルールは?)
3. Maintains proper spacing from other aircraft. 他機との適切な距離を保つ
4. Corrects for wind drift to maintain the proper ground track. 風の影響を考慮し、適切なコースを維持する。(風に流されない事)
5. Maintains orientation with the runway/landing area in use. 使用する滑走路との関係を明確にし、常時状況を把握している事。
6. Maintains traffic pattern altitude, ±100 feet (30 meters), and the appropriate airspeed, ±10 knots. 適切な高度と速度を守る。

C. TASK: AIRPORT, RUNWAY, AND TAXIWAY SIGNS, MARKINGS, AND LIGHTING 空港とその標識など
Objective. To determine that the applicant:
1. Exhibits knowledge of the elements related to airport/seaplane base, runway, and taxiway operations with emphasis on runway incursion avoidance. 衝突防止に重点を置いての滑走路や誘導路で安全に運行ができるか。
2. Properly identifies and interprets airport/seaplane base, runway, and taxiway signs, markings, and lighting.
空港内の標識やライト等を理解しているか。
