GPSでのCommon Mistakes

GPSは間違いなく便利なのですが、便利すぎて間違いや事故の元にも成っています。 ここでは共通の間違い(Common Mistake)とそれを防ぐ方法が一覧にされています。

 

Common Mistake Prevention
Too much head-down time

GPS receivers are particularly engaging distractions among many others that conspire to disrupt a pilot’s instrument and traffic scans. 

頼りすぎたり、やる事が多すぎてパイロットの眼が機内に集中してしまい、外側で起こっている事を忘れたり、他の飛行機が居ない事を確認する事を忘れたりする。 
頭を下げた状態なのでHead-Downと呼ばれてます。

Be very familiar with a GPS before using it in flight. Like other typical fixation errors, you’ll probably need to correct this behavior a number of times during training. 

訓練中から注意してGPSに頼ったり、またGPSを勉強する事によって、飛行中に使い方で悩まないようにする。

Entry errors

Entering the wrong approach or wrong waypoint and blindly following incorrect guidance is easier than one might think.

入力ミス。意外と多いそうです。

Build the habit of backing up GPS guidance with other means. Simply asking yourself what’s next during cross country legs will help you determine if you have an understanding if your flight is progressing as planned.
GPSで飛行する際には他の方法でも確認する。そして常に、次のステップを考える事によって、入力ミスにも気づくように備えておく。

And remind students to enter IACO designations (例 KLAX), or they might be lead to a VOR or other unintended waypoint.また空港名どかで最初にKをつける必要があるかも知れません。(米国)

Direct-to complacence

Blindly following direct-to navigation without assessing airspace and terrain can lead to airspace incursions or worse. 

Direct-Toに頼りすぎて、制限空域に侵入したり、衝突したり。。。。

It is still a good idea to draw a course line on their chart when planning a direct leg. Special attention is necessary when programming a direct leg enroute, since a pilot is already busy multitasking. 

チャートに飛行コースを書いておくと便利で、注意する空域にも気が回りやすい。
GPSは便利すぎるので、注意しないと禁止区域に飛行したりと危険な状況になりえるので、チャートに線を引くなど、安全対策を怠らない。

CDI driven by the wrong source

Some GPS installations have dedicated CDIs and some do not. A shared CDI that receives input from an unexpected source can result in dire consequences. CDIの情報源が違っているかも。

Ensure that you understand how to select and confirm the appropriate input for a shared CDI.. Build the habit of backing up GPS guidance with other means will help here as well. A well thought out what if discussion is a good way to drive home this point. For example, what if a pilot thinks he or she is tracking a localizer, but the CDI was selected to GPS, leading the aircraft on a random course into higher terrain. コースの間違いはかなり危険なんで、他の物で確認する癖を付ける。

Matching track to bearing

Trying to get on course by steering to a heading that matches the indicated bearing to a waypoint is poor form. 横風の計算を忘れて、常にGPSの示す方向に機首を向けてしまう。 ADFではHomingと言うあまりお勧めでない飛行方法です。

Lining up track with bearing will get a pilot to the next waypoint, but not back onto the original desired track. It’s also likely to result in homing to the waypoint, much like homing to an ADF.

横風は何時でも有ると思って。GPSのコースが変わりやすいのは横風の可能性が高いと理解してください。機首をWaypointに向けるんじゃなくて、コースを守ろう。
Failure to navigate using localizer

Failure to tune to the localizer frequency during a localizer approach (unless autotuned) and then failing to select it as the navigation source could result in substantial navigation errors.
ローカライザーを使う時は周波数をあわせ忘れる。

When conducting a localizer approach, ensure that the localizer is identified and selected as the navigation source for the OBS.

ローカライザーを使う時は周波数を正しくあわせ、信号音や他の計器でも確認する。

Failure to properly identify the missed approach point

Failure to properly identify the missed approach point, particularly on an overlay approach where the MAP might be identified by DME and the GPS distance being read is different than the DME figure could result in beginning the missed approach too early or too late.ミス・アプローチポイントを間違える。DMEとGPSの差です

Realize that on many overlay approaches, the missed approach point is determined by a DME distance, for example 3 n.m. from the VOR. However, the GPS readout is counting down from your present position to the missed approach point. These two different numbers might confuse you.

DMEとGPSでは距離の表示方法が違う時が時が多いので注意しましょう。
DMEは局からの距離を示すが、GPSはWyapointからの距離になります。

Ignoring a message annunciator

Ignoring a message indicator because you think you know what it is going to indicate or because it seems to be constantly flashing is poor cockpit management. 警告灯を無視する

The message annunciator notifies the pilot of essential information necessary for safe navigation. Always view your message as soon as possible after receiving this annunciation.

警告灯が付いた時には直ぐに対処するか、GPSを使わないようにする。

Not activating or executing a flight plan

Entering a flight plan and then not activating or executing it as necessary could lead to loss of situational awareness.
フライトプランをプログラムしたけど、起動を忘れる。

Look for indications on the flight plan page that the plan is active, such as an arrow between the departure and the following waypoint. Also, when returning to the Navigation or Map page, ensure that it indicates navigation to the waypoint you expect. 
表示される矢印や、予定のWaypointが表示されるかを確認する。
