まず、大きくCategoryに分けられ、そして各CateogyでClassに細かく分類されます。
操縦士の認定での場合、航空機は大きくCatogoryに分類されます。（航空機自体とでは違うので注意ください。）
例：Categoryは、Airplane（飛行機）, Rotorcraft（回転翼航空機）, Glider（グライダー）, Lighter-than-air（軽航空機）に分けられます。
そして、各CategoryごとにClassに細かく分ける事が出来ます。
